Thinking of coming for acupuncture but not sure what to expect?
Here is a list of commonly questions I get asked
What happens when I arrive for my appointment?
I will greet you with a drink, and we’ll go through some questions together, including your health, your lifestyle, and the reasons you want acupuncture. We’ll discuss your goals and create a treatment based on your unique needs.
How do you decide what the best treatment for me is?
I practise Traditional Chinese Medicine style acupuncture and Naturopathy. I look at symptoms to diagnose patterns of imbalance and decide what combination of points is appropriate for you. In a treatment session, I’m looking at providing you with two things: the fastest relief to your symptoms and working on the root cause which made them appear in the first place.
What happens during my treatment?
You get to lie down comfortably while I insert very thin, single-use, sterile needles in specific acupuncture channels. The treatment lasts 20-30 minutes.
In some cases, I may use other techniques such as cupping, acupressure, Gua Sha and warming therapy - moxibustion.
Does acupuncture hurt?
This is one of the most asked questions by first-time acupuncture clients. Most people assume that acupuncture will be uncomfortable. The needles used are fine and thin, some being 25 times thinner than hypodermic needles and virtually painless. Certain points may be sensitive, but it shouldn’t hurt.
What should I wear?
Loose clothing is ideal, but you can wear anything you want.
How long does it take for me to see results?
Everybody heals at different speeds. Some of us respond really quickly to treatment, while others may need a bit more time. This will depend largely on the condition being treated and something we will discuss during the initial interview. You can always contact me before scheduling an appointment to explore if acupuncture is right for you.
