The acupuncturist

Sarah Shorter MSc, Lic.Ac, mBAcC, mANP

Sarah specialises in creating highly personalised acupuncture treatments and lifestyle plans tailored to your specific needs.

Using a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medical acupuncture techniques, naturopathic coaching and detailed case history analysis, Sarah works to alleviate pain and discomfort in the immediate term and address their root cause in the long term.

Sarah's career

Sarah divides her time in the clinic treating clients and as a lecturer and clinic supervisor teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. But she hasn’t always been an alternative medicine practitioner.

Decades ago, after studying Process Engineering, Sarah earned a Master’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry that took her to carry out research at the Institute of Child Health.

This time in the lab proved critical to Sarah’s later career as she was fascinated by using data and science to influence health outcomes. After five years of working for engineering companies, her interest in health and her longing to apply her passion for fixing things in a human context, she decided to pursue a career in natural medicine and returned to college for four years to complete a Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture and Naturopathy.

Today, Sarah’s research and interests focus on painful conditions, menopause, cosmetic acupuncture and how stress and lifestyle affect our health and recovery from illness and injury. In her practice, she brings her experience as an acupuncturist, naturopath and engineer (she is still one at heart!) to structure a path to better health.

Professional Qualifications

  • Lic.Ac Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture
  • Diploma in Naturopathy
  • Certificate in Holistic Facial Acupuncture
  • Certificate in Advanced Treatment of Muscle-skeletal pain with acupuncture
  • MSc Analytical Chemistry
  • BSc Process Engineer

I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and abide by its Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

Conditions I have treated

I have experience treating anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, constipation, chronic pain, depression, headaches, insomnia, menstrual pain, menstrual irregularity, sciatica, sports injuries and stress.

“I initially went to see Sarah because I was going through a particularly difficult episode of anxiety. The sessions certainly helped me and they even supported me in other areas of my health. It was the first time I was having acupuncture and Sarah always made sure to explain the procedures and made sure I was always comfortable.” — RC, London
